Prof Cather Simpson: The A+ Team and B- Idea

University of Auckland

Prof Cather Simpson talks about how she started off as a biologist seeking to understand the intricacies of haemoglobin and how she transitioned to working on photonics. With a wide variety of applications from making smartphones to vertical farming, photonics is definitely a fundamental field in today’s technology. If you’ve ever wanted to understand how to find the best ideas for scientific research, this is your chance to get inspired.

Afterthoughts:

As Steve Jobs has once said - work backwards from the customer experience before working on the tech. Work with a team that possesses the changing skillset to adapt. Who knows? Maybe my interests in physics and mathematics will evolve to something else entirely. The future is uncertain, but I want to learn as much as I can such that I can collaborate with others and learn from their experience.
